Let It Be

Last weekend I had the pleasure of experiencing Vedic Meditation for the first time in my hometown Byron Bay with the lovely teacher Kate Cliff. In this blog I’m sharing a bit about Vedic Meditation and why I chose to explore it.

Vedic Meditation also commonly known as Transcendental Meditation is a type of meditation dating back around 5,000 years which comes from the body of knowledge called the Vedas. This body of knowledge is also where Yoga and Ayurveda came from. Although not identified with any particular religion or race, India was the original place where the Vedas where channeled from Source, into Sanskrit and distributed out to the people via the mediums mentioned of Yoga, Vedic Meditation and Ayurveda.

When practiced regularly, these mediums are known to restore and maintain balance in the mind, body, soul and can offer a direct connection to our Divine Source, bringing increased peace, joy and love into our everyday lives.

It wasn’t until around 1955 that Vedic Meditation was largely introduced to the Western world via Indian guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi who called it Transcendental Meditation due to its meditation style of transcending the mind into a state of Pure Consciousness. Maharishi was passionate about sharing this knowledge and trained thousands of teachers who then continued to bring the practice to the world teaching and training others.

Actually, I believe Kates teacher Tim, was trained by a teacher who learnt from Maharishi himself! Maharishi also taught The Beatles this practice, and as Kate brought to my attention during our course – influenced their music in a significant way with their famous songs ‘Across the Universe’ and ‘Let it Be’ about Vedic Meditation.

Unlike other types of meditation where you may be focusing on something such as breath or visions, this style of meditation is transcendental meaning it offers the user a way to quickly transcend the mind and its thoughts, to a state of no-thing-ness, Pure Consciousness. I believe that there are infinite paths to this state, and there is no right or wrong way, all are valid.

When doing research into this style of meditation I became very interested in the idea of experiencing this path myself. I was also interested in connecting more often to Source to allow an even greater presence of peace, love and joy in my everyday life.

It was then that I realized I already knew of someone in Byron Bay who taught it! And that was the lovely Kate Cliff J I had heard Kate speak in Byron before at an event about her amazing life experience and how she came about discovering Vedic Meditation in her healing process. I instantly felt a connection to Kate that day in the room, she is so inspiring in herself with a wonderful energy about her, and I followed her on Instagram straight away, not knowing that only about 6 months later I would be contacting her to learn Vedic Mediation. And I am so very glad I did!

In my first meditation, I went into a deep space of peace and felt as if I’d travelled back to the Source before time. Firstly, my mantra pulled my consciousness closer and closer to my heart where it opened up to enter into a heaven like paradise. This is more a feeling of bliss rather than a visual paradise. From there I went into what I would call a familiar deep state with no images or thoughts into the transcendent state. I say familiar because I am able to find this beautiful space with other practices I do, however I found this way to be very easy and direct. During the meditation I did come out of this state back into consciousness where some thoughts were flowing in again and I enjoyed it all, allowing the process to unfold as needed. After about 20 minutes Kate brought us out of meditation and we spoke about our experience.

On the way home from my first day with Kate a car pulled out in front of me with the number plate 333.. I smiled and knew I was moving along the right path. Then the following day upon leaving the Vedic Meditation practice a different car with the number plate 333 pulled out in front of me! I was actually a little bit shocked when I saw it again… then smiled and thanked Universe for the signs.

During a meditation in my second days instruction, I found that the first 5 minutes or so my mind was still active with thoughts and then half way through the 20 minutes it became so still and peaceful and I feel my body thanking me and the mind and body rejoicing together for the peace and quiet. A few waves of tingling pulsating energy came through me and then I’m deep into the transcendent state. Pure bliss. Pure consciousness.

After the two days of working with Kate and already seeing the power of Vedic Meditation as a tool to easily and quickly connect back to Source and recharge, I went away super excited to bring it into my daily life. It’s been a week now since the course and I have loved taking the time out twice a day to just BE. I can definitely recommend this course with Kate to anyone. Whether you are interested in connecting more often to Source, would appreciate more peace in your daily life, or both because they go hand in hand! Thank you, Kate. Jai Guru Deva.

With Love, Cait.
